Is transportation provided from the local school?
Yes. There is a bus that will drop the children off at The Rock after school. You can communicate with the school office in order to set that up for your child.
Are field trips offered for the children?
We often do field trips during our summer program. Parents will receive a schedule of all summer events on the first day of our summer program.
Are meals and snacks provided?
Yes, we provide snacks for the students after school and we have a coffee shop for them to purchase additional items. The coffee shop sales things such as pop, candy, pizza rolls, pretzel with cheese, breadsticks, smoothies, milkshakes, and cappuccinos. These items cost anywhere from $.25 to $2.50.
Is your staff trained?
Our staff is primarily made up of volunteers from our community. Each volunteer undergoes a background check and is trained by Laura.
Does it cost to have my child attend the after-school program or the summer program?
Because The Rock is a non-profit ministry, it does not charge for its student programs. However, some activities throughout the summer do require the children to bring money with them to help cover the cost of the activity.
What studies do you offer for tutoring?
We offer what we call “homework help” each day after school. Parents must let us know if they wish their child to do their homework at The Rock. Homework help encompasses all homework and we help to the best if our ability.
What activities do you have planned for this summer? Are there themed activities, field trips, etc?
The summer program is packed full of fun activities including things like field trips, hiking and picnicking at a state park, swimming, crafts, cooking, water games, and bible lessons. A schedule of events is passed out to parents on the first day.
How do you discipline?
We have a “3 strikes you’re out” policy. Students may receive a strike for any behavior an adult constitutes bad. If the student receives 3 strikes in one day the student will be sent home for the remainder of the day and allowed back the following day. Students may also receive 5-10 minute time-outs for misbehavior. If a student gets all 3 of their strikes during the lesson time they will be asked to take a 2-week leave from The Rock. Serious misbehavior can also constitute in a 2-week suspension or more if necessary.
How can I get involved?
The Rock is always looking for new volunteers. If you love God and love children then talk to Laura about what opportunities are available.
